YOUR GUIDE TO URBAN NIGHTLIFE & ENTERTAINMENT!
THE COLONY - Hamptons moves into Hollywood nightclub courtesy of SBE
Nobody does a nightclub remodel like the folks at SBE, a mini-HGTV show in their own rights that are able to turn a sticky supper club like White Lotus/Ritual/Halo into something as beachy chic as The Colony in landlocked Hollywood. Like Montauk's surfer scene transplanted onto the Hollywood's busiest nightlife strip, entrance comes ala rustic wood plant wall and hip but entirely useless lifeguard tower that shades overdressed bouncers and passing entourage of Kardasian wannabes in skimpy BCBG sundresses.
We love the sea, and the outside of this thoroughly beach club inspired supper club dresses up the endless concrete blithe that makes Hollywood so unglamorous by day even if its geographically misleading. No beach is anywhere in sight, aside from a strip of messy sand with thirsty-looking wild grasses lining the entrance walk. Inside, rustic plank walls and driftwood columns feels eerily similar to Montauk's famous Surf Lodge, but in lieu of a dirt parking lot and ramshackle motel a sleek white terrace strewn with built-in lounges and familiar dance floor re-imagined with embezzled semi-circular bar and Lichtenstein-esque mural.
Build a beach club in the middle of Hollywood and LA nightlifers arrive thoroughly confused as to clothing options. No black dresses and no dress shirt, unless they’re opened with abs for days. Think beachy chic but no shorts, unless they’re short-shorts for girls or ankle-length for guys.
